We sat down with Parky to get an update on his ongoing fight against the rare and highly malignant form of cancer, that he was diagnosed with, in 2019. Parky praises the basketball community that rallied to his side; talks about the people and insights that inspired him along the way; and the role that basketball plays in his ongoing fight.
Parky articulates his vision for masters basketball in Australia; the growing demand for more weekly over-age competitions; and the potential for an NMBL (National Masters Basketball League). He challenges Australia's basketball authorities, National and State, as well as local stadiums, to start developing the structures and strategies that have already been implemented in other countries.
Parky walks us through his basketball career and some of his favourite players, coaches, games and memories … including scoring 107 points (31 * 3s) in a game, more than both Kobe Bryant and Wilt Chamberlain.
Parky is an Australian basketball legend and hero. More importantly, Parky is beacon to all of us because of the high-performance way credo that he lives his life by… "You may see me struggle, but you won't see me quit!".
