We hope you enjoy episode #14 of our Australian Basketball History series - an in depth interview with Augustin Rodriguez Lamas - President of the International MaxiBasketball Federation (FIMBA) and Murray Sheils - Australia's representative for FIMBA.

The interview took place in Pesaro, Northern Italy, during the XII FIMBA MaxiBasketball European Championship in June 2024, where Australia fielded a over 60's mens' team for the first time in history.

FIMBA is responsible for the largest masters basketball tournaments in the world, and Augustin talks about the origins and evolution of his organisation (in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1969 when group of ex-players played an exhibition game); which countries are 'best in the world" when it comes to masters basketball … and why; and what Australia needs to do to be more competitive at the international level.

Murray takes us through his plans to expand Australia's participation at the next FIMBA championship, the 17th FIMBA World Maxibasketball Championship to be held in Ticino Switzerland  (the southern part of Switzerland) (28 gyms / 350+ teams / 6000 athletes / 3 cities … Lugano, Locarno and Bellinzona).
